2011 is the continuation of the Lincoln Shield Penny. The 2011 design features the union shield with a draped scroll across it. The inscription of the scroll reads the words “one cent”. There are 13 stripes across the shield that represent the joined states that supported the federal government as one union. The inscription E Pluribus Unum is written on the coin which means “Out of many, one”. The design was made by Lyndall Bass.
